SGA provides students with free access to The New York Times

Story by Matt Watson

The price of staying informed has just gone down. Thanks to an initiative of the Student Government Assembly, all MSU Denver students can register for free access to The New York Times through September 2019.

Students can create a free account at for complete digital access across all devices, a value of $52 per year at the Times’ student rate.

SGA President Justin Darnall said the initiative will decrease costs for many students, citing a Times subscription as a requirement for some classes on campus. Students with active pre-paid subscriptions can get refunds for the unusued portions of their subscriptions from the Times.

“We are funded by students to advocate for students, and what better way than to directly impact their out-of-pocket cost for classes and access to information and events?” Darnall said.

SGA spent about $8,000 on access for close to 20,000 Roadrunners.

“I would spend my whole year as president bending over backwards to support one student, and this will help a large amount of our students,” Darnall said. “Even if this isn’t a classroom benefit for a student, I still believe many will log in and enjoy the resource.”
