Braelin Pantel has worked at MSU Denver since 2010. Prior to coming to the University, Braelin worked in several student affairs departments at other Colorado colleges, including in student activities, leadership programming, international student services, disability services, new student orientation and student conduct. Braelin holds a B.S. in psychology from Union College in Schenectady, New York, an M.A. in Higher Education Administration with an emphasis on student development and is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration and Student Affairs Leadership. When she’s not working (or studying herself…), Braelin enjoys vegetarian cooking, backpacking along the Colorado Trail and spending time with her family, including her chocolate lab Ghirardelli (‘Delli’) and cat, Basmati.

Bio:

Dave Haden joined the MSU Denver team in January 2017 as Associate Dean for Student Engagement and Wellness. After growing up in Iowa, Dave earned a B.S. in Business Administration at Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri and M.S. in Counselor Education and Educational Psychology (Student Personnel Administration emphasis) at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas. Dave has worked on a number of university campuses prior to his current role, most recently as Associate Dean/Director of Housing and Residence Life at Emerson College in Boston. Additionally, Dave has worked in nonprofit program management and as a movie theatre manager. Away from the office, Dave enjoys exploring all that Denver and Colorado have to offer, playing with his cats, reading, and watching baseball.

Bio:

Brandi Scott has worked in higher education for a decade and at MSU Denver for about six years. Prior to MSU Denver, Brandi worked at Colorado State University (CSU) as a Diversity Program Coordinator and at Texas Woman’s University as a College Access Advisor. In 2012, Brandi completed her Master’s in Student Affairs in Higher Education from CSU. Throughout her career, Brandi has served in positions, and is passionate about, addressing inequities in access to and completion of college for historically underrepresented student populations. Brandi is the current State President for TRIO programs with the Colorado Chapter of ASPIRE board and serves on the TRIO social justice committee for the five state region. In spring 2014, Brandi received the “Outstanding Woman of the Year” award from MSU Denver and in spring 2015 was recognized by the Access Center for her commitment to serving students with disabilities. Currently, Brandi is working on her PhD in Higher Education Leadership at Colorado State University and her research focus is understanding whiteness in higher education.

Kelli Frank was born and raised in Seattle, Washington and has lived in Colorado since 2012. She is one of six children and the first in her family to graduate from college. Before coming to MSU Denver she attended the University of Washington and earned a B.A. in Sociology and American Studies. She then earned an M.S. in Student Affairs in Higher Education (SAHE) from Colorado State University and hopes to continue her education as a life-long learner. Kelli has worked in student activities, campus recreation, student housing, case management, new student orientation and college access arenas throughout the past six years. When not working, she enjoys travelling, spending time with her family and the beloved animals in her life.

Thomas Ragland started working at MSU Denver in May 2015 and has served in both the Dean of Students Office and University Advancement at the University. Prior to working for MSU Denver, Thomas lived and worked in all four continental US time zones. Thomas earned a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Northern Colorado and an M.S. in Student Affairs from Missouri State University. Thomas has worked in student conduct, housing and residence life, housing occupancy, university advancement, and as a workforce development specialist. In his spare time, Thomas enjoys anything fitness related, writing rap music, all things Batman, and spending time with his family.

Elise joined the MSU Denver Dean of Students team in 2018. Elise earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology & Anthropology from the University of Redlands in California, but eventually returned to Denver in 2010. Elise has worked in a variety of roles, all connected to conflict resolution in one way or another. Her experience includes working in high schools facilitating restorative justice conferences, working with young individuals experiencing homelessness, teaching classes to adults on parole, and coordinating a youth diversion program rooted in restorative principles. Following her passion, Elise earned her Maters of Arts in Conflict Resolution from the University of Denver. Outside of work, Elise enjoys reading, traveling, photography, and spending time with her family and two dogs.

Erica Quintana-Garcia joined the MSU Denver Dean of Students team in 2017. Erica was raised in Colorado and attended Colorado State University in Fort Collins, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science & Ethnic Studies. She then attended Metropolitan State University of Denver where she earned her Masters of Social Work degree. As an administrator in higher education, she has years of experience working in admissions, advising, and the registrar’s office. As well as mental health experience working with trauma-informed care as a victim advocate and counselor. During her free time, she enjoys traveling, sports, and spending time with family and friends.

Alicia Milanowski began working as the Temporary Case Manager at MSU Denver in March 2019. Prior to beginning her role at MSU Denver, Alicia served as the Coordinator for Basic Needs & CARE at California State University Channel Islands, where she also earned her B.A. in Liberal Studies and M.A. in Education with an emphasis in Higher Educational Leadership. Alicia has a passion for serving students in need and assisting them in meeting their educational and professional goals. Hello Friends, my name is Ally Garcia and I am the Director of the TRIO SSS Program. I am ABD, All But Dissertation at the University of Denver where I study Higher Education. My concentration is educational public policy and hope to finish by 2019. I am a two-time MSU Denver Alumna; graduating with a bachelors in Speech Language and Hearing Science and masters in Special Education. I am a seventh-generation native to Colorado and call Pueblo, Colorado my home. I coach high school softball at Horizon High School, love my Chow-Chow, Chewbacca and spend time with my partner, Logan and my loving parents, Sylvia and Jose Garcia.

Gregor Mieder moved to the United States from Germany in 2000, and has lived in Wisconsin, Georgia, and now Colorado. He received his BA in English Literature & TESOL certificate from the University of Wisconsin - Madison, and went on to complete a Master's in Applied Linguistics at the same school. For the past ten years, he has worked as an ESL teacher to refugees, first- and second-generation immigrants, and international students from across the world, and has trained tutors in providing appropriate and effective English language and writing development. He has overseen MSU Denver’s Immigrant Services Program since June 2015. 

Gregor enjoys reading and riding his bicycle to work as well as for pleasure.

Juan Gallegos joined the MSU Denver team in April 2017 as the Brother2Brother program coordinator. A 5th generation Coloradan, Juan moved to Washington State and earned a B.A. in psychology and a B.A. in Spanish language from Seattle University. He continued his studies at the University of Washington Seattle where he earned an M.A. Public Affairs. His work in the high school, college, and non-profit space has focused on empowering historically underrepresented students, as well as championing the institutions that serve them well. Juan currently promotes equity and inclusion by serving as the Assistant Director of the Center for Multicultural Excellence and Inclusion (CMEI). Juan enjoys spending time with his family, his dog, Luna, and in his free time enjoys all things outdoors, leatherwork, soccer, bonsai, and gardening.

Ted has worked at MSU Denver since 2006 starting in the Office of the Registrar as the Tuition Classification Advisor. From there he became a Graduation Evaluator. In the Fall of 2009, Ted began helping out in veteran services when Post 9/11 GI Bill came out. In 2011, Ted moved to veteran benefits full time in the Office of the Registrar as School Certifying Official and has been the primary SCO for MSU Denver ever since. In his free time Ted enjoys keeping the competitive juices flowing by play men’s baseball and recreational softball, as well as getting frustrated on the golf course.

As of January 2, 2018, Paul is honored to serve those who served our country as the first MSU Denver Assistant Director for Veteran and Military Student Recruitment. As a first-generation college student who earned a master’s degree in Higher Education Administration at State University of New York at Brockport, he accumulated over 30 years of experience at MSU Denver since August 1, 1987 and intimately understands the challenges facing prospective MSU Denver students. Being a prolific innovator of sorts, Paul initiated the first MSU Denver Admissions Open House, he designed, developed and implemented the first MSU Denver faculty and staff leadership development program known as METROLEADS, and now serves as the first Veteran and Military Student Services Recruiter. As the recipient of MSU Denver’s Distinguished Service Award which was voted by his peers, Paul says his greatest achievement is in helping students become all they are capable of being. He is very grateful for every learning opportunity his work at MSU Denver provides. Paul is a life-long learner and astute student of leadership studies. He enjoys music, visual art, innovative technology, biking and his future plan is to forge a new life chapter by exploring and studying Europe and the rest of the world while being based in Italy.

Steve Willich began working at MSU Denver in 2008 as the Administrative Assistant to the Dean of Students and now serves as the Director of the LGBTQ Student Resource Center. In his current role, Steve is involved in many diversity and inclusion committees and events, including the Women’s Leadership Conference and the Higher Education Diversity Summit. Prior to his work at MSU Denver, he worked in various non-profits including Up With People and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado. Steve earned his B.S. in Business Administration at Colorado State University, and is currently pursuing his M.S. in Student Affairs in Higher Education there as well. Outside of work, he enjoys traveling, reading, meditation, and spending time with his dogs: Napa, Sonoma, and Killian.

Kyla Hines (pronouns she/her/hers) is a local Coloradoan, growing up just north of Denver in Louisville, Colorado. Kyla received her Bachelors in Education from the University of Montana and her Masters in Counseling from Portland State University. Kyla is a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor and Licensed Professional Counselor with experience working in educational and community settings, specializing in serving underserved populations including the LGBTQ community and individuals with disabilities. Kyla’s goal in working with students is to provide a space where students feel empowered to bring their whole selves allowing for congruency and growth. When not working you will find Kyla spending time with her family that includes one human and three fur babies. Kyla considers herself a “lazy athlete” who enjoys any physical activity that is followed by good food and conversation. Kyla can often be heard asking, “have you heard this podcast?!”

Raquel grew up in a city known for its warm weather and abundant vegetation. The state of Morelos, México, is home to her family and one of the leading figures in the Mexican Revolution, Emiliano Zapata. When she thinks of what it means to be Mexicana; her heart and soul lead to family, joy, resilience, and delicious food. When she was 12 years old, her parents and two older siblings came to the United States in search of better opportunities. Once she arrived to the U.S., she learned English, integrated into a new culture, and found courage to embrace her Mexican identity in academic spaces. Raquel studied in Mexico 8th – 10th grade and returned to the U.S. her junior year. Her parents believed in education and social justice as pathways to help others. Therefore, she knew she wanted to find a career that would enhance human well-being, promote social justice, and empower communities.

Raquel is a proud CAMP and MSU Denver alumna! She earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Social Work. She feels honored to support students in their academic journey and is continuously inspired by their stories and resilience. Her hope is to help CAMP scholars discover they are the main ingredient for change, and that real success is finding your lifework in the work that you love. During Raquel’s free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, working in her garden, and exploring new places to run and hike in Colorado.

Diane Yee joined MSU Denver in October 2017 as the Director of Campus Recreation after a 5-year stint in New York City as the Athletics and Recreation Director at The New School (TNS). While at TNS, she established a mascot (the Narwhals) to unify the seven schools, doubled fitness class offerings, tripled sports programs and increased outdoor adventure participation by 700%. As an independent athletic program, unaffiliated with any leagues or conferences, Diane created the Northeast Art School Basketball Invitational (NASBI) in 2014 so that art schools had a championship to call their own. In 2016, TNS took home the championship in the 3rd Annual NASBI, defeating neighborhood rival Cooper Union at Brown University in Providence, RI. With a passion for increasing employee engagement, she also worked with Human Resources and established the highly anticipated annual Staff Development Day and monthly Lunch Buddies program.

Diane received her BS in Business Administration from The College of New Jersey in 2005 and immediately went on to earn her MS in Sports Management from West Virginia University in 2006. As a student, she was highly involved with campus recreation, partaking in club volleyball, intramural softball, and extramural flag football while working as the intramural and club sport supervisor. The benefits she gained through participation and employment is what drove Diane towards a career in collegiate recreation. She believes that campus recreation is much more than fun and games, but also an opportunity to increase recruitment, retention, community, holistic well-being and personal/professional development for students. A life-long resident of the east coast, Diane is excited to live the Colorado lifestyle. She enjoys Spikeball, volleyball, snowboarding, rock climbing, tennis, table tennis and the occasional game night.

Bryan is currently Associate Director of Campus Recreation. He started with MSU Denver as an intern and also held the position of Assistant Director of Campus Recreation. Bryan has over 20 years of experience merging hard and soft skills instruction and training in the development of student and staff leadership success models. He continues to pursue a leadership role in the development of media and blended learning modalities for hard and soft skills outcomes. Develops and implements creative new programs in support of workplace and industry diversity outcomes. Bryan holds a Baccalaureate degree from MSU Denver and a Master of Arts degree from the University of Colorado. Bio:

Louie Morphew began working at MSU Denver in 2005 in the role as an Assistant Director in Campus Recreation.   He is currently the Associate Director of Programs and Facility Operations at Campus Recreation directly overseeing the personal training program, adaptive fitness, informal sports and CPR classes.   Prior to his arrival at the university, Louie worked at a physical therapy clinic and also at Arapahoe Community College.  Louie has worked as an Exercise Specialist, Personal Trainer and as an Adjunct Instructor leading fitness training for law enforcement cadets.  Louie holds a B.S. in Therapeutic Recreation from Indiana University and also has an M.S. in Adult Fitness from Indiana State University.  Outside of work Louie enjoys coaching youth sports for his two children, attending sporting events, exercising, traveling and gardening.

Born in the San Francisco bay area, David Lamothe moved to Golden, CO in 1994. He graduated from Mullen High School in south Denver in 2000 and then moved to Seattle, WA to begin a life of rock climbing and backpacking while exploring the mountains, rain forests, and ocean beaches of the Pacific Northwest. Most of his days were spent recreating outdoors and playing music whenever he had the chance.

Returning to Golden, CO in 2003, Dave enrolled in the Outdoor Recreation Leadership program at Red Rocks Community College specializing in Mountaineering Skills. At about the same time, he joined a nationally touring Irish folk-punk band and continued to explore the urban jungles of the U.S., coast to coast, between studying and attending classes.

After earning his Associate’s Degree from Red Rocks Community College in 2007, Dave transferred to Metropolitan State University of Denver where he enrolled in the Recreation Professions program in the school of Professional Studies, focused on Recreation Management. He began working as a student-employee with Campus Recreation at Auraria in the Outdoor Adventure Center and spent the next three years honing his guiding skills, planning outings, and facilitating team building events with various groups of students, faculty, and staff of the Auraria Campus community.

After graduating from MSU Denver in 2010, Dave worked on RTD’s West Light Rail line to Golden as an environmental and stormwater inspector until he returned to MSU Denver as a full-time administrator working once again with Campus Recreation at Auraria. Dave accepted the full-time position of Outdoor Leadership and Intramural Sports Specialist and is honored to have the opportunity to give back to the students of the Auraria Campus and MSU Denver.

Gail Bruce-Sanford, Ph.D. - Executive Director.  Dr. Gail Bruce-Sanford is Director at the Counseling Center, and Licensed Staff Psychologist. She has an M.Ed. and Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Howard University. Her professional background includes conducting both individual and group psychotherapy with counseling center populations, community mental health, as well as academic teaching at both small and large institutions. Her areas of interest and expertise include diversity programming, group work,ethics, supervision, working with biracial/multiracial students, peer education, women's issues, crisis management, eating disorders, depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship issues, and helping non-traditional students get back on track. Her psychotherapeutic  work is informed by psychodynamic, systems, and multicultural perspectives. She is a member of the American Psychological Association,Colorado Psychological Association, and the Association for University and College Counseling Center Directors. Her hobbies include tennis, scrabble, and classical music.

Bio:

Dr. Steven Lee has worked at MSU Denver since 2005.  He is the Assistant Director and coordinates crisis intervention services at the Counseling Center. He received his M.A. and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at the University of Houston. Steven has worked in a hospital inpatient unit, psychiatric emergency room, and both outpatient and residential behavioral health and substance abuse treatment facilities.  Prior to working at MSU Denver’s Counseling Center, he worked for two years at UNC’s Counseling Center.  Steven has taught several psychology classes at three academic institutions.  His areas of interest and expertise include cultural and diversity issues, with emphasis working with LGBTQ and American Indian populations, and crisis management.  Additional areas include development of healthy identity and character, and working with individuals struggling with trauma, dual diagnoses (mental health and substance abuse), bipolar spectrum, and autism spectrum problems.  He incorporates a feminist treatment perspective with developmental, systems, and community approaches in therapy.  Steven is certified in Level II EMDR treatment.  Hobbies include running, kayaking, movies and books, and a Sunday New York Times.  He lives with two excellent cats, Jake ba’tinah, and Kowishto.

Steve Haigh, current Director of  Met Media.  Steve has more than 35 years of experience as a newspaper copy editor, page designer and Web editor. He spent 25 years with the Rocky Mountain News through its closing in 2009 and served as an MSU Denver affiliate journalism professor and academic adviser before accepting leadership of Met Media in 2011. He has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia. A native of Kansas City, Mo., Steve bleeds Royals blue, Chiefs red, and Mizzou black and gold. He and Pam have been married since 1984. They have two grown daughters, Kayla and Caroline, and two dogs, Otis and Cooper.

Ronan O’Shea is the current Met Media Assistant Director and joined MSU Denver in January 2016. He holds a B.S. in Sport Communication from Indiana University and a M.S. in Sport Management from Illinois State University. Ronan served as a play-by-play announcer and video reporter for Illinois State University, the University of South Florida and the BIG EAST Digital Network. His reports have been featured on FOX News, FoxSports.com and Comcast SportsNet Chicago. Ronan is a Chicago native and currently resides in Denver.

Bio:

Steve Monaco began working at MSU Denver in 1990 as the Director of the Health Center at Auraria and is the current Director of the Health Center. Previously he served as the Assistant Administrator for the former Littleton Medical Center, in Littleton, Colorado. In addition to his role at the Health Center, Steve also serves as the University ADA Coordinator and has served in several interim administrative roles during his tenure supervising various departments within Student Engagement and Wellness. Steve’s undergraduate degree is from The College of Wooster, in Wooster, Ohio and his Master’s Degree was in Sports Medicine from Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Indiana. The Health Center, which Steve oversees, is a tri-institutional department serving all constituents on the Auraria Campus. Besides providing the campus infrastructure with health and safety resources, the Health Center also administers the Student Health Insurance Program for MSU Denver and administers the Auraria Campus Immunization Policy. During Steve’s employment at MSU Denver he has focused on keeping student fees low for all students by creating self-generated income to offset the need for continual student fee increases. He credits his staff at the Health Center for their consistent work of assisting students in tangible ways to achieve their academic goals. From the state of Ohio originally, Steve is an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan, whose entire family shares his enthusiasm for the scarlet and grey.

Jeff “Zack” Uszacki is the Associate Director Operations, Health Center at Auraria.  Zack Has worked at the Health Center since 1994. He has held positions as an athletic trainer, medical assistant, laboratory and medication outlet coordinator, and assistant director. Zack holds a B.S in Secondary Education with an emphasis in Athletic Training from West Virginia University. Prior to working at MSU Denver he worked as an athletic trainer in the high school, college and professional levels. He also taught science in the Denver Public Schools. Zack has served in a variety of capacities on the Board of the Rocky Mountain College Health Association and as the Regional Representative to the American College Health Association. When not at work , he enjoys hiking, camping, skiing and cycling with his family.

Gretta Mincer has worked at MSU Denver since 2002 as the Assistant, and later, the Associate Director of Student Activities overseeing leadership development, fraternity & sorority life, student government, and community service programs.  In addition to her role as an administrator, Gretta has taught Leadership Studies Courses for 9 years. Gretta holds a B.S. In Social Science from the University of Wyoming and an Ed.M. From Oregon State University in College Student Services Administration with some love of data and research.  She enjoys spending time with Molly, a 3 year old Bernese Mountain Dog and also enjoys urban and mountain adventures.

Dave Bourassa, Assistant Director, Student Activities, has worked at MSU Denver since 2012. Prior to coming to the University, Dave worked in several student affairs offices at other Colorado higher education institutions, including in student activities, leadership programming, housing, new student orientation and student conduct. He has worked in Student Activities and Student Affairs in higher education for over 13 years and absolutely loves his career in working with students in different capacities.  Dave oversees the Student Travel Program and Student Organizations here at MSU Denver.  He has a B.S. in Athletic Training from Colby-Sawyer College in New London, New Hampshire, and a M.A. in Physical Education from the University of Northern Colorado. When he's not working, Dave enjoys spending time in the outdoors skiing, camping, and hiking with his family.  Dave lives in Evergreen and really enjoys taking his daughter, Lily, on hiking and ski adventures in the surrounding mountains of his home.  Dave was born and raised on the coast of Maine and really misses the ocean and lobster! Dave is also an avid New England Patriots fan.
