Friday, September 13th
Location: MS Teams
Time: 1:00 PM – 2:30 PM
Every semester is a new beginning and an opportunity to level up your skills and engagement as a college student! Many bright and capable students get overwhelmed by the sheer number of syllabi, new courses, and new faces at the start of the semester, and may forget to intentionally engage in practices that set them up for success. This workshop will focus on syllabus review, setting up your weekly/daily schedule to make life easier, and an array of tips for college success that most of us aren’t taught!
Friday, September 27th
Location: MS Teams
Time: 1:00 PM – 2:30 PM
By the time we get to college, it may feel as though taking notes and reading textbooks should be second nature, but often that’s not the case. The level and load of work expected of college students, along with the many other responsibilities most MSU Denver students juggle, can make it difficult to know how to take effective notes and process the mountain of course materials we encounter every semester. This workshop will focus on strategies for efficiently and effectively taking notes and processing course materials while still engaging in meaningful learning.
Friday, October 11th
Location: MS Teams
Time: 1:00 PM – 2:30 PM
All of us are guilty of becoming “highlighter happy” (highlighting everything) at least once in our lives! Most people have a preferred way to learn, and just highlighting course readings may not be the best way to optimize learning. This workshop will focus on the actual process of understanding patterns and connections among materials, and how to approach exams with confidence! There will be an emphasis on creating graphic organizers and using stress reduction techniques to focus the mind during exams.
Friday, October 25th
Location: MS Teams
Time: 1:00 PM – 2:30 PM
Do you feel like you have too much on your plate? You’re not alone. This workshop will share best practices and principles for how to balance the competing demands of student life, work, family commitments, and the other pulls on your time. This interactive workshop focuses on setting priorities, learning to say “no” when you can, and managing how you use your time.
Friday, November 8th
Location: MS Teams
Time: 1:00 PM – 2:30 PM
The thought of writing an essay based on scholarly/peer-reviewed works can be daunting, especially if you are a new student, returning to college after a gap, or a transfer student! This workshop will help students learn how to effectively identify and locate appropriate resources for essay writing and make the fullest use of the Auraria Library’s many services, including Research Consultations and the 24/7 Ask Us Chat. We’ll include insights on how to get started on large essay projects, and how to structure your process to minimize stress and feelings of being overwhelmed!
Friday, November 22nd
Location: MS Teams
Time: 1:00 PM – 2:30 PM
When students first hear that they are assigned a class presentation, their first thought is often a panicked “oh no!” Well, don’t panic—we are here to help you learn how to give wonderful presentations. This workshop will provide insights into presentation best practices, building your confidence and sense of “voice” when presenting, and using technologies effectively for presentations.
