Application Process:

  1. Watch the online video to learn more about the reality of a career in child welfare.
  2. Complete the Stipend Application, Letters of Reference, and the FERPA form and submit them by the date provided below. Incomplete and/or late applications may not be considered. Please remember that you will still need to complete a Field Placement Application as well. 
  3. Applications will be reviewed and candidates will be selected and notified, via your MSU Denver email, of your interview date and time. A pre-interview with the Child Welfare Coordinator may be requested.
  4. Selected candidates will be invited for an in-person interview with representatives from MSU Denver, from County Department of Human Services agencies, and the Colorado Department of Human Services.
  5. Students will be selected to receive awards based on the availability of funds, passion and eagerness to work in child welfare, the accurate and thorough completion of the stipend application, and knowledge and professionalism displayed in interview. Stipend funds are limited and this will be a very competitive process.

1.  Current Full-Time or Part-Time, Foundation and Concentration year students - DUE by 5pm - Friday, FEBRUARY 16th, 2018

2.  Newly Admitted (received acceptance to begin program in Fall 2018) includes: DUE by 5pm Friday, April 6th, 2018.

  • Foundation year students and
  • Advanced Standing year students

Second Year Stipend

Who applies for a Second Year Stipend?

  1. Current BSSW students committed to the field of child welfare, who received a stipend their senior year and will successfully complete a field placement in a Colorado county department of human service agency in child welfare and are applying to the Master of Social Work program, and will complete the child welfare track.
  2. MSW Foundation year students committed to the field of child welfare, who received a stipend and will successfully complete a field placement in a Colorado county department of human service agency in child welfare, and will complete the child welfare track. 

All students need to complete an application and provide at least one reference letter. The reference letter should ideally come from your field placement Field Instructor or Task Supervisor or Agency Intern Coordinator. If not from one of them, then it should come from someone who is knowledgeable about child welfare and acquainted with your writing skills, personal qualities, and your professional goals.
