As a Sport Management student, you will learn the business and operations side of sports, from venue management and media communications to legal liabilities. Through a dynamic curriculum, field experiences and internships, you’ll acquire the unique business skills and knowledge required to succeed in the sports industry.

Interested in Sport Media? MSU Denver’s Sport Media minor, offered in conjunction with MSU Denver’s Journalism program, will give the communicators among you skills in sports coverage and media relations. You’ll gain insight on the cultural role of sport, the impact of sport coverage and the various forces that compose a global, multibillion dollar industry. And you’ll receive instruction in the fundamentals of journalism and storytelling along with the basics of sport industry and sport venue operations.

Professor Colleen Colles has over 25 years of experience teaching in higher education and has also been a collegiate volleyball coach, athletic administrator and sport event manager. She has been heavily involved with the Commission on Sport Management Accreditation and has served on its Board of Commissioners for multiple terms. Much of her current research and professional development is focused on the quality and accreditation of sport management programs.
Lecturer Nicole Furuiye has over 20 years of combined experience in teaching and the sport and entertainment industry. She has worked for the NBA, NFL, ESPN, collegiate athletics and a public relations firm that assists professional athletes. In addition to teaching, she supervises students’ field experiences and the student-run Sport Industry Operations Club.
Assistant Professor Troy Morgan has 10 years of experience in athlete development and sport performance. After playing baseball in college, he coached baseball and was a recruiting coordinator at the high school and college levels before becoming a college football assistant and then a Major League Baseball scout. His research areas include non-cognitive aspects of sport performance, systems and structures of athlete development and Pan-American sport.
