DENVER - Metropolitan State University of Denver President Stephen Jordan announced today a $1 million naming rights agreement for the University’s new athletic complex. The new name, The Regency Athletic Complex at MSU Denver, is part of a 10-year agreement with Regency Student Housing community.

Regency Student Housing, an affiliate of Denver-based Central Street Capital, Inc., offers an off-campus living experience to students on the Auraria Campus, with 960 beds in two student housing communities, the Regency and its newly-opened Villas at the Regency. Central Street Capital, Inc. is a private investment management company founded by V. Robert Salazar.

“We are thrilled with this opportunity to reaffirm the relationship between MSU Denver and Regency Student Housing,” said Angelique Salazar Moyer, vice president of operations for Central Street. “We have always been especially focused on the needs of the MSU Denver student-athletes, and this sponsorship of the new athletic facility gives us a chance to express our appreciation to those fine young men and women who have chosen to make their homes with us.”

“I would like to thank the entire Salazar family for their commitment to and understanding of the value of partnering with MSU Denver,” said Jordan. “This sponsorship will support a portion of the capital needs for construction of The Regency Athletic Complex at MSU Denver.”

The Regency Athletics Complex at MSU Denver includes eight tennis courts that opened in August, a soccer stadium scheduled for completion by fall 2014, and baseball and softball diamonds in early 2015. The long-term project plan includes construction of a 20,000-square-foot building to house locker rooms, a strength and conditioning facility, and an athletic training room.

Located on 12.5 acres south of the Colfax Avenue viaduct adjacent to Shoshone Street, east of Interstate 25, the complex will have three athletic fields with synthetic turf, and will be home to six of the Roadrunners’ 15 sports teams: baseball, softball, men’s and women’s soccer, and men’s and women’s tennis. In addition to using the facility for varsity athletics, intramural sports and academic programs, the University is already hosting activities for the surrounding community’s youth at the complex.

“We have had a longstanding relationship with the Regency and are thrilled to continue to build on a successful partnership,” said Athletic Director Joan McDermott. “The majority of our student-athletes live at the Regency.  This sponsorship agreement strengthens our relationship and provides funds for a state-of-the-art facility.”
