Bio:

David Fine is a fourth-generation Coloradan who has practiced law in Denver for thirty years, both in private practice and the public sector.  Before becoming General Counsel, David was a partner at the international law firm of Holland & Knight where he specialized, among other things, in higher education law.  David served as the Denver City Attorney under Mayor Hickenlooper from 2007 to 2011.  David has been listed in Best Lawyers, Super Lawyers, and 5280 Top Lawyers on multiple occasions.  David serves on the boards of the Center for Legal Inclusiveness and the Urban Land Conservancy.  Before becoming General Counsel David served on the board of the Metropolitan State University of Denver Foundation.  David received his B.A. in History from the University of Wisconsin and his J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law.

Bio:

Christine Márquez-Hudson is the Vice President of University Advancement and the Executive Director of the MSU Denver Foundation at Metropolitan State University of Denver. In this role, she is responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership for the University’s fundraising efforts and guides a team of more than 30 staff members working to advance university fundraising, alumni engagement and donor relations. She is also the primary liaison to the Foundation Board of Directors, and oversees the stewardship and distribution of MSU Denver Foundation’s assets.

Prior to joining MSU Denver, Christine was president and chief executive officer of The Denver Foundation, the largest and most experienced community foundation in the Rocky Mountain West. Her 20+ year career in the nonprofit sector includes serving as a nonprofit consultant, direct service provider, teacher and in three foundations as a program officer, project manager and capacity builder.

Christine is the recipient of numerous community awards for her leadership, including 9News Leader of the Year, Latinas First Trailblazer Award and Girl Scout’s Woman of Distinction. She is proud to have been a contributing member of many community boards, commissions and committees. Christine currently serves on board of the Denver Museum of Nature and Science and as a member of The Women’s Forum of Colorado.

Bio:

Dr. Will Simpkins became the Vice President for Student Affairs at Metropolitan State University of Denver on August 1, 2018. In this role, Dr. Simpkins leads student engagement and wellness initiatives, enrollment management services, and classroom to career initiatives. Dr. Simpkins is committed to the success of all MSU Denver Roadrunners and works to connect the University community with partners in Denver and Colorado.

Dr. Simpkins’s previous experiences in higher education include career services, student activities, and civic engagement in both public and private institutions in New York City as well as serving on the faculty of the Educational Leadership in Higher Education program at Montclair State University. Dr. Simpkins has also been a national leader in NASPA: Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education and was appointed to two terms on Manhattan Community Board 9 in the City of New York.

Dr. Simpkins earned an Ed.D. in Higher Education Administration from New York University’s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development, with a dissertation that examined the college experiences of bachelor’s degree students who receive welfare in New York City. He also holds an M.Ed. in Counseling and Personnel Services with a concentration in student leadership development from the University of Maryland and a B.A. in English with concentrations in creative writing and cultural studies from Virginia Tech.

Bio:

Dr. Shawn C. Worthy is a Professor in the Human Services Department at Metropolitan State University. He studied at the University of Illinois and Northern Illinois University, where he was awarded a masters and then doctorate in Clinical Psychology. He began his career as an instructor at Northern Illinois before working in many clinical settings for behavioral and therapeutic services.. He joined MSU Denver in 1995, receiving tenure in 2002. He served as Human Services Department Chair in 2005 and Interim Vice President of Student Services in 2006 and has also worked as the Director of Mentoring and Summer Bridge Programs with Student Services. He currently serves at the MSU Denver NCAA Faculty Athletic Representative, as well.

Worthy has done research and published work extensively about sports psychology on how all levels of skiers cope with fear. He is also involved with work to eliminate domestic violence relating to adolescents. He has researched, published and presented at many conferences and workshops striving to understand diversity as it pertains to engaging people of color. He has also worked as a clinician and psychotherapist at the Children’s Hospital of Denver and The Urban League of Denver.
