Candidates for the Personal Financial Planning Certificate program should hold a bachelor’s degree or have previous relevant work experience in some area of the financial services industry.
Classes are limited in size, with registrants being selected on a first-come basis.
To successfully complete the program participants must achieve a final course grade no lower than C.
A student is allowed to take as many classes as he/she wants but in order to obtain the Certificate in Personal Financial Planning the student must successfully complete all seven courses (FPI-FPVII). If a student transfers from another Board-registered CFP® program we will accept a maximum of two courses and still allow the student to obtain the certificate. If a student has taken the majority of the classes at another approved CFP® certification program the student can still take the needed courses through our program. The student, however, will not complete Metro’s certificate program.
To successfully transfer credit into this program, the student will be required to submit official documentation of the completion of prior coursework (including letter grade) from the director of the prior program or University registrar (as appropriate).
Transfer credits will be awarded for:
- Courses completed at a CFP Board accredited institution within five years of transfer request date.
- Courses completed with a grade of "C" or better.
- A maximum of two courses may be transferred.
These courses are not restricted only to those wanting to complete Metropolitan State University of Denver's Personal Financial Planning Certificate Program but are also open to individuals wanting the information for their own personal use or for students needing it to complete another approved CFP(R) program.
