MS in Human Nutrition and Dietetics


No, we do not require the GRE for the MS in Human Nutrition and Dietetics.

There is not an "all online" option. The MS in Human Nutrition and Dietetics is offered as a hybrid program which includes both online content and face-to-face meeting sessions for each course.

The face-to-face portion of courses in the MS in Human Nutrition and Dietetics are typically offered in evenings on weekdays or during the daytime on weekend days.

If you don't have a 3.0 GPA from your undergraduate degree, you can still apply to our program. You may be able to be admitted provsionally. Provisional admission status means that you cannot apply for or receive financial aid until the provisional status is removed. Removal of provisional admission status can be removed via a written request to the Nutrition Graduate Program Director after at least one semester of coursework is completed with at least a 3.0 GPA.

We accept students for both full-time and part-time tracks. 

Students enrolled in the full-time option will:

  • complete all required courses within a 2 year timeframe
  • enroll in approximately 7-12 credit hours per semester, or 3-6 credit hours per 8-week term
  • focus on up to 2 courses maximum during each 8-week term

Students enrolled in the part-time option will:

  • complete all required courses within a 3 year timeframe
  • enroll in approximately 3-7 credit hours per semester, or 1-4 credit hours per 8-week term
  • focus on 1 course at a time or up to 2 courses maximum during each 8-week term

Yes, we accept students for fall, spring, and summer start dates for the MS in Human Nutrition and Dietetics. Applications deadlines are as follows:

Fall 2019

  • Priority deadline: March 1
  • Regular deadline: July 1

Spring 2020

  • Priority deadline: August 1
  • Regular deadline: December 1

Summer 2020

  • Priority deadline: January 1
  • Regular deadline: May 1

Yes, you can. Your application for admission and all application material received by the University will be valid for up to two semesters beyond the term of application. This means, for example, that if you are accepted for a fall semester start date but choose to not attend in fall semester, you can defer your start date to spring or summer semester. After this time, files will no longer be maintained for applicants who are accepted but did not enroll for more than two semesters. Applicants wishing to attend and be accepted into the program after that period must submit a new applicatioin/application materials along with an application fee.

Graduate Certificate in Human Nutrition Science


No, we do not require the GRE for the Graduate Certificate in Human Nutrition Science.

Students admitted to the Graduate Certificate in Human Nutrition Science are non-degree seeking students. Non-degree seeking students do not qualify for financial aid.

The number of continuing education credits varies based upon your profession and the credentials you hold. For example, according to the Commission on Dietetic Registration, Registered Dietitians can earn 15 CPEU's for each 1 semester of academic credit taken.

Yes, you can! Students accepted into the Graduate Certificate in Human Nutrition Science take 12 credits of graduate level coursework in the program. All 12 of these credits may also be applied to the Master of Science in Human Nutrition and Dietetics degree. However, to transfer from the Grad Certificate program to the MS in Human Nutrition and Dietetics, students must re-apply and pay a new application fee in order to become degree seeking. Completing coursework as a non-degree seeking student does not guarantee admission into a degree program.

Individualized Supervised Practice Pathway (ISPP)


Yes, financial aid is available to interns participating in the ISPP. Interns should contact the MSU Denver Financial Aid Office. https://msudenver.edu/financialaid/ 

Interns enrolled in the ISPP must abide by all professional standards and polices outlined within the ISPP Handbook. In addition, interns must pass drug screening and criminal background checks. The program has a zero tolerance for all illegal drugs, including marijuana, even though recreational marijuana is considered legal in Colorado. Random drug screenings may be requested by the ISPP director or preceptors. More information can be found in the ISPP handbook.

MSU Denver requires that all incoming interns have:

  • measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine or evidence of titers
  • Hepatitis B (HBV) vaccine or evidence of titers
  • Tdap vaccine/booster within the past 10 years
  • varicella vaccinations or positive antibody titer
  • TB test (Mantoux)
  • flu shot
