1. Do I need to attend orientation?
All degree-seeking MSU Denver students, regardless of age, must attend an orientation session.  This includes all first-time-to-college students, transfer students, and certificate seeking students.  Non-degree seeking students and readmitted students are not required to attend an orientation, but it is always highly recommended. To request to be exempt from orientation, complete the Exemption Form and submit it.

2. Why do I have to attend orientation? What will I get out of it?
Orientation sessions provide valuable services and academic information critical for success.  Orientation covers degree planning, academic concerns, student support programs, commuter issues, and more.  Students will also receive the Student Handbook, and other essential informational guides.  Additionally, topics of particular interest to transfer students will be covered in sessions designed for them.

9. When can I register for classes?
After you have completed the first two pre-enrollment steps (orientation and assessment), New Students or Transfer Students with less than 30 credit hours, will meet with an academic advisor and then register for classes with them.  NOTE: After your first semester, your registration date will depend on how many credits you have completed.

10. Will I meet with an academic advisor during orientation?
Due to the large group of students participating in each Orientation event, the primary focus during orientation is to create your class schedule for the upcoming semester. You may be advised as a part of a group or one-on-one; experiences vary by department. However, please be reassured that as you continue here at MSU Denver, you will have many opportunities to receive individual attention from your academic advisor and faculty in your academic department and obtain advice and guidance on your academics and career plans.
