Things are looking up … for the class of fall 2016

Graduation is the highlight of every semester. This fall’s commencement, held at the Denver Coliseum on Dec. 16, was no exception.

Here’s what you might have missed about the graduating class of fall 2016:

Strength in numbers

- Bachelor’s grads: A record-breaking 1,550, which exceeds 1,375 from fall 2015
- Master’s grads: 42 with 22 in teaching and 20 in accountancy

A reflection of Denver

- Diversity: 552 students of color, led by 322 Latino students
- ASSET: A record 22 students, up from 17 last fall
- First gen: 39 percent of grads were the first in their families to graduate from college
- Age range: 18-67

What they study

- Top majors: biology; psychology; criminal justice and criminology; management; and individualized study.

Top honors

- President’s Award winner: Ariadna Ochoa Magallanes
- Provost’s Award winner: Levi Appenfelder
