About the Music Department
Music at MSU Denver offers professional programs designed to prepare students for careers as music teachers, performers, or composers. Students seeking a broad, general coverage of the field may pursue the music minor.
Metropolitan State University of Denver is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music. In addition, the college teacher certification program is fully accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education and by the Colorado Department of Education.
The Metropolitan State University of Denver Department of Music will achieve prominence as one of the top baccalaureate music programs in the nation. This vision challenges the faculty, staff, and administration to continue to create a strong educational and learning environment for our students, while developing a strong collaboration among all of MSU Denver’s performing and visual arts programs (music, art, and theatre).
The Department of Music at MSU Denver strives to cultivate confident, creative, and skilled musicians, and serve as a leader in the education of professional performers, teachers, composers, industry leaders, and scholars. Central to the Department’s mission is the advancement of historic values, traditions, and repertoire while simultaneously encouraging the exploration of new and diverse forms of musical expression. Through public performances and educational outreach, our students, faculty, and guest artists create opportunities for public access to excellence in the arts, promoting the cultural life of the university and the surrounding region.
