Supplemental Academic Instruction (SAI)

What is SAI?

Supplemental Academic Instruction (SAI) is a free academic assistance program offered to students in some difficult math courses.  SAI is not a remedial addition to the course, nor a punitive measure, but rather a chance for students to get some extra practice on typical problems, ask questions, compare notes, and start preparing for exams.  Your SAI Instructor will be available to answer questions, clarify course material, and assist with some of the more challenging aspects of this difficult course. MSU Denver’s Math Department will also provide review materials, practice problems and chapter reviews, plus some more challenging problems as needed to help prepare you for class.

The primary goal of this SAI program is to improve student grades in historically difficult courses.  It has been seen over the past years that SAI pays off with higher pass rates for those students who attend and use the time to their advantage.  Bring your questions and be willing to practice with homework problems, in-class examples, or some prepared practice problems.

Why should I attend?

MTH 1410 and MTH 1320 are historically difficult courses, particularly for students who minimally passed the prerequisite courses (MTH 1110 and MTH 1120 for MTH 1410; MTH 1310 for MTH 1320)

For example: Students who previously made a C or C+ in MTH 1310 have about a 40% chance of passing Business Calculus on the first attempt. But SAI makes a big difference! Since 2013, students have been offered Business Calculus with an accompanying SAI session. Of all students who had previously made a C or C+ in MTH 1310, and attend SAI regularly, about 85% pass the course. Results are comparable for MTH 1410.

Attending SAI regularly can significantly increase your chances of passing difficult courses on the first attempt. This saves you not only time on your degree plan, but money as well. SAI is free and does not require registration. Simply show up on a regular basis with your course materials and questions, ready to work.

ALL STUDENTS WHO MADE A C OR C+ GRADE IN THEIR PREREQUISITE COURSES ARE RECOMMENDED TO REGULARLY ATTEND SAI SESSIONS WITH THEIR MTH 1410 OR MTH 1320 COURSE.

We are excited to expand SAI offerings to MTH 1120 College Trigonometry and MTH 1210 Intro to Statistics this year!

Business Calculus SAI Sesions are meeting this semester!

SAI Sessions are open to any student currently enrolled in MTH 1320.

No registration is required, just drop in any time!

All sessions are held in the Science Building, rooms listed below.
