Hubert “Hub” Safran, an affiliate professor of business law in MSU Denver’s Management Department, died in December 2013 following a battle with cancer.
Safran began practicing law in Denver in 1955. He was a sole practitioner for more than 50 years, often defending those he described as the victims of the rich and powerful. His clients ranged from the International Association of Firefighters to the Service Station Dealers Association.
He worked as a lobbyist for the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association following 10 years of service in the Colorado House of Representatives. Safran played an important role in MSU Denver’s history: He voted on the bill that first made the University a four-year institution in 1963. The bill passed by a narrow vote.
