Bio:

Dr. Jennifer Bradford is currently the Chair of the Institutional Review Board and is an Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice at MSU Denver. Before joining the University, Dr. Bradford worked with arrestees and pretrial defendants in the criminal justice system. She served 6 years active duty in the US Navy as a certified Chinese-Mandarin Linguist in the area of operation that included South Korea, Japan, and Taiwan. Her research has focused on a variety of criminal justice topics such as the prison environment and correctional officer professionalism, best practices for risk assessment of pretrial defendants, and public perceptions on the legalization of marijuana and enforcement. Additionally, she has conducted research in the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL). Dr. Bradford holds a Ph.D. in Criminology from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, a Master of Criminal Justice from Boston University, and a B.A. in Psychology from Willamette University. Dr. Bradford has served on the IRB at MSU Denver since fall 2012.

Bio:

Dr. Badanes' research training is in physiologic stress reactivity. Specifically, she examine how the body responds to stress in several different populations, including depressed moms (both pre and post-natal), infants, preschoolers and adolescents. Much of this work has been conducted with recent immigrants and with families living in extreme poverty. She is also trained in clinical interviewing with participants who may be experiencing different forms of psychopathology (e.g. anxiety, depression, bipolar).

Bio:

Dr. Bruce-Sanford is Director at the Center and a Licensed Staff Psychologist. She has an M.Ed. and Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Howard University. Her professional background includes conducting both individual and group psychotherapy with counseling center populations, community mental health, as well as academic teaching at both small and large institutions. Her areas of interest and expertise include diversity programming, group work,ethics, supervision, working with biracial/multiracial students, peer education, women's issues, crisis management, eating disorders, depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship issues, and helping non -traditional students get back on track. Her psychotherapeutic  work is informed by psychodynamic, systems, and multicultural perspectives.

Dr. Helton is a former hospital and health system administrator, focusing primarily on delivery of health care services through "safety net" health care organizations that specialized in care to the poor. His research work focuses on services to safety net populations and operational efficiency in health care organizations. He is co-author of the text Health Care Operations Management – A Systems Perspective.

Bio:

Dr. Itin is a social worker and works with Adolescents, Children, Families,  and his research interests include: HIV/AIDS, Veterans, Drug and Alcohol, Court mandated clients, and much more.  He has sought to combine social work with work in outdoor adventure and wilderness contexts for much of his career. In the pursuit of combining these areas, he deepened his knowledge of experiential education, group work and experiential practice. These elements make up the majority of his professional writing and presentations.

Bio:

Dr. Jessica Rossi-Katz is an associate professor in the area of Speech, Language, Hearing Sciences at the Metropolitan State University of Denver.  Her scholarship centers on teaching youth and young adults strategies to protect their hearing against noise-induced hearing loss.  Dr. Rossi-Katz is also a member of an interdisciplinary team that explores communication participation among older adults.  Her work in this area includes several published articles on the factors that underlie older adults’ difficulties understanding speech in noisy environments.  She has been a member of MSU Denver’s IRB since 2010.

Dr. Michelle Tollefson is an assistant professor in the Health Professions department and teaches in the Integrative Healthcare program.  Dr. Tollefson is a graduate of Creighton University where she received her Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Medicine degrees.  She then completed an obstetrics and gynecology residency at the University of Missouri in Kansas City, and received her board certification in this medical specialty.  Dr. Tollefson was a private practice obstetrician and gynecologist, until leaving to work with Poudre Valley Health System as a medical director and Director of Women’s Wellness Education.  She is a certified Wellcoach, guest faculty for Harvard, and author of online continuing medical education for the Harvard Institute of Lifestyle Medicine.  Her Colorado medical license is currently active.
