Metro Exchange Partner - Ethiopia
Aksum University, located in the historic city of Aksum, is one of the newest institutions of higher education in Ethiopia. It’s an undergraduate university with an enrollment of about 4,000 students (2009) from all over the country. It has plans to expand to an enrollment of 9,000 students.
Metro State signed a partnership agreement with AkU in March 2009. It is hoped that the agreement will lead to the development of mutually beneficial projects involving faculty and student exchanges and research. For current activities, please contact Dr. Ali Thobhani at 303-556-2543.
Ethiopia Reads was founded in 1998 “To create a reading culture in Ethiopia by connecting children with books. By planting libraries for children, creating culturally appropriate reading materials and training educators to nurture a love of books, Ethiopia Reads brings hope and educational skills to this generation of Ethiopians.” Metro State community hopes to support this project by collecting books and raising funds. Metro State student, Nicole Oudenhoven, is the contact person for additional information. She can be contacted at email@example.com. More information about the organization can be found at www.ethiopiareads.org.
Ethiopia School Project
Metro State has made a commitment to assist with the building of a modest school for children in a rural area near the town of Adwa. The photos illustrate the current state of the school. The new building will serve the community all year round. A campaign to raise $20,000 is currently underway. To volunteer with this project, please contact Dr. Ali Thobhani at firstname.lastname@example.org
