The Learning & Development Office provides a variety of opportunities for all employees at MSU Denver to seek the learning they need to stay up to date with individual and professional skills and knowledge. The newsletter lists upcoming webinars, workshops, conferences and other learning available to MSU Denver employees. Document Accessibility Workshop

This Workshop will provide information about how to identify inaccessible materials, specifically PDFs, PowerPoints, and Word Documents, and provide methods to make these materials fully accessible. This will include hands-on training on the creation of accessible PDF documents from inaccessible image-based PDF documents.

Open Auraria Event

Open Auraria is a campus gathering for faculty and staff at the Auraria Library’s Discovery Wall for open educational resources (OER) learning, ideas, & celebration! Come to learn, share, mingle, and enjoy lunch and dessert!  Join sessions or just drop by to grab materials.

Annual Performance Review Training

The annual evaluation process for Administrators is around the corner. The Office of Human Resources is happy to announce a training opportunity. This year we are partnering with Employer’s Council (a regional organization that provides training and other services to employers), who will present on the topic of Managing Employee Development (Coaching). On the agenda will be the skills needed to be an impactful coach and a step by step guide for supervisors and staff to help facilitate the coaching process.

The second part of the program is focused on University guidelines and practices. We will cover:

  • How to have developmental conversations
  • Steps to take when there are performance gaps
  • Employee responses to feedback
  • A review of the evaluation forms and processes

All sessions present the same content and are held in JSSB 304.

Employee Tuition Benefit Info Session

Permanent, benefits-eligible employees can apply to receive an undergraduate tuition benefit for themselves, their spouse, and/or their dependents. The application deadline to use the Tuition Benefit for summer 2019 is June 7, 2019 and for fall 2019 is August 16, 2019. Once posted the application will be available on the Learning & Development Benefits web page.

**It is the employee’s/student’s responsibility to read and understand the terms and conditions of the Tuition Benefit. To help employees/students understand the Procedures, this informational session will:

  • Show you where to find the Tuition Benefit Procedures and Application on the Learning & Development website.
  • Summarize the Tuition Benefit Procedures, especially important points regarding eligibility, rules and procedures.
  • Provide an opportunity to ask Tuition Benefit related questions of key MSU Denver employees from the Learning & Development office, Admissions, Financial Aid, Office of the Registrar and Office of the Bursar.

All sessions present the same content and are held in JSSB 304.

Gatekeeper Training

The MSU Denver Counseling Center, Health Center at Auraria, the MSU Denver Dean of Student’s Office and its CARE Team have partnered to offer "GateKeeper Trainings: Identifying and Referring Students at Risk" for the Spring 2019 semester. These professional development opportunities are intended to train staff to recognize/identify student behaviors and actions that would likely benefit by an appropriate referral to one of the University sponsored agencies who can assist students in addressing their needs.

These sessions are open to all Faculty and Staff who routinely encounter students as part of their work responsibilities. The sessions last for two hours and advanced registration is required. Attendance is specifically encouraged for those with little to no mental health, crisis or early intervention training but all personnel are welcome.

Professional Development Conference

The MSU Denver Professional Development Conference is a one day professional development opportunity open to all MSU Denver employees. It takes place in the King Center, with identical sessions in the morning and afternoon. The day features workshops presented by your peers and a keynote speaker to frame the day’s activities. Light snacks and coffee will be available in the morning, and lunch in the afternoon. We invite you to attend as many activities as your schedule allows.

Colorado OER Conference 2019

This conference is open and free for those in Colorado who have an interest in developing, implementing, exploring, and elevating OER (Open Educational Resources) as a promising practice in higher education and beyond. Please note that space limitations apply. The OER Council reserves the right to limit unbalanced institutional attendance to ensure that all campuses have adequate representation at the conference.

Wells Fargo

MSU Denver has a partnership with Wells Fargo to deliver financial wellness coaching and training on topics such as general financial health, home buying and retirement advising. There are two options for assistance:

  1. Schedule a time for individual financial wellness coaching
  2. Schedule a time for Wells Fargo to come and speak with your team on a specific financial wellness topic

Academic Impressions (AI) offers training and professional development specific to higher education. All employees at MSU Denver have free access to most of AI’s live and recorded webcasts. While many more topics are covered, below is a highlight of the webcasts available. Even if you cannot attend the live webcast, you will be able to view it as a recorded webcast once it is released in that format. The Colorado State Employee Assistance Program (C-SEAP) has been available as a confidential resource to state employees for over 30 years. In addition to short-term counseling, referrals and resources, C-SEAP also provides training and organizational development services free of charge to state employees.
