Human Performance and Sport Minors
The human performance and sport minor concentrations are for students interested in sport coaching, dance, exercise science, or sport media. The primary objective is to provide instructional studies in a liberal arts institution in human performance and sport, thereby enhancing one’s knowledge, understanding, and skillful use of this area of study to pursue a better quality of life.
Additional requirement: A grade of “C” or better is required for all human performance and sport courses taken in any major/minor concentration. Students should note that programs differ in the minimum grade required.
This minor, shared between the Department of Journalism and the Department of Human Performance and Sport, allows students to further develop an interest in sports coverage, sport industry operations and sports media relations. Students gain insight on the cultural role of sport, the impact of sport coverage and the various forces that compose a global, multibillion dollar industry. Students receive instruction in the fundamentals of journalism and storytelling along with the basics of sport industry and sport venue operations.
