Exercise Science

Maintaining ‒ or attaining ‒ good health and fitness through exercise are top priorities for many Americans. While technology exists to track personal fitness, nothing can replace the expertise and motivation that a degreed exercise professional brings to any fitness program.

MSU Denver’s bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science is practitioner-focused with a strong science foundation, making you immediately employable in a variety of health and wellness settings and prepared for graduate programs in exercise physiology, physical therapy, occupational therapy or as a physician’s assistant.

Our knowledgeable professors have years of experience in the fitness industry as well as an extensive network of community facilities for internships that will give you real-world experience working with diverse populations. The Exercise Science degree program features top-of-the-line fitness-assessment equipment, and our Regency Athletic Complex is an incredible asset you can use as an Exercise Science major.

Accreditation

MSU Denver Exercise Science (ES) students should take pride in the fact that their academic program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) and endorsed by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). MSU Denver is one of only 54 undergraduate programs in the United States to have achieved this credential. This prestigious distinction will allow prospective employers to see that MSU Denver ES graduates have completed a rigorous program of study that has been nationally recognized by an external accrediting body. Our curriculum is evaluated regularly by the Committee on the Accreditation for the Exercise Sciences (CoAES) to ensure students are adequately prepared to become exercise professionals.

For more information about CAAHEP accreditation, go to this web page:

If you’d like to read testimonials from program directors about CAAHEP accreditation, see this web page:

Accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs requires our faculty to collect data on specific, measurable, programmatic goals to ensure that ES students are being adequately prepared. See below for the most up-to-date statistics:

Senior ES Majors – culminating experience (405 hour internship)

Percent of students who completed their internships successfully, according to the standards set forth by the ES program, CAAHEP and the Committee on Accreditation for the Exercise Sciences (CoAES):

2016/2017 academic year: 100 percent

Recent ES Graduates - Employer Satisfaction Survey results

Recent graduates are required to request that employers (or graduate school faculty – for those pursuing graduate studies) complete a survey that requests input regarding whether or not they are satisfied with the knowledge and abilities of ES program graduates.  Percent of graduates meeting established standards (as reported by employers):

2016/2017 academic year: 100 percent (of responses received)
