Bio:

Raúl M. Sánchez is MSU Denver’s chief compliance officer for civil rights, as the executive director of the Office of Equal Opportunity and Title IX coordinator. He is responsible for addressing affirmative-action and equal-opportunity issues, as well as responding to alleged violations of the Policy Prohibiting Discrimination, Sexual Misconduct and Retaliation. He also oversees and carries out relevant training. Prior to joining MSU Denver, he served as chief compliance officer at Washington State University, the University of Idaho, Stony Brook University and Union County Community College in New Jersey.

Sánchez received his law degree from Harvard Law School. He also received a master’s degree from Stanford University in Latin American Studies. His bachelor’s degree is from Princeton University in Politics and Latin American Studies.

Sánchez also has substantial teaching experience. At the beginning of his higher-education career, Sánchez was a law professor. After he became an administrator, over 18 years ago, he continued to teach as an affiliate instructor. He has taught multiple law courses and business courses. Currently, he teaches an online course on Corporate Responsibility and Business Ethics. He has published several articles on issues concerning international human rights and international environmental law.

Prior to his career in higher education, Sánchez worked as a corporate attorney with a law firm in New York, which took him to countries all over Latin America. He also was a program officer for the Ford Foundation in Mexico and Central America. Right after law school, he lived and worked in Denver as a law clerk for a justice on the Colorado Supreme Court.

Sánchez also has considerable experience related to diversity in higher education. In addition to his years as a compliance officer, he was a chief diversity officer at the University of Idaho. He has lived, worked and/or studied in Brazil, Peru, Honduras, Guatemala, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Mexico and Spain. He is fluent in Spanish, Portuguese and English. He is originally a native of San Antonio.

Sánchez summarizes his goals at MSU Denver as making sure all students, staff and faculty know where to report alleged violations of the Policy Prohibiting Discrimination, Sexual Misconduct and Retaliation in a timely way so they may be investigated in a prompt and effective manner by the Office of Equal Opportunity. His office oversees the mandatory online courses that all employees are required to take. He also carries out in-person training and plans to reach all employees soon.

Bio:

Amanda Miracle is the Equity Specialist for the Office of Equal Opportunity. She moved from her hometown of Grand Junction to attend Metropolitan State University of Denver in 2012. As a student at MSU Denver, she worked for First Year Success as a student ambassador from 2013-15. She then joined the Marketing and Communications team in summer 2015 to be the student 50th-anniversary event coordinator. Miracle graduated from MSU Denver in 2016 with a B.A. in Hospitality, Tourism and Event Management with a concentration in Events. In her current role, she assists with OEO investigations, coordinates employee required trainings through EverFi Lawroom and serves on many committees on campus. During her spare time, Miracle likes to enjoy the outdoors, relaxing on her family’s farm and being surrounded by family and friends.
