The West and Central Classroom buildings reopened on schedule this morning following months of successful improvements and renovations as part of the Auraria Higher Education Center’s Project B and the construction of the Metropolitan State University of Denver Sim Labs project.

Both buildings are open for normal operations with minor ongoing construction impacts. This marks the beginning of the final phases of work for these important campus improvements.

“The project team worked so diligently to adhere to our goalreopening date and to remain open and communicative throughout months of construction,” said Martha Nelson, senior project manager and interim director of Planning Design and Construction. “It’s exciting to finally welcome employees back into modern, functional spaces that will elevate their working and teaching experiences, and we thank everyone who was impacted for their patience and trust in our teams and vision.”

What employees need to know:

  • Testing will occur throughout the buildings this week, but we anticipate this will have minimal occupant impact. During testing, you will notice caution tape to identify areas that require attention. Please do not remove these as the contractor will remove them before Aug. 19.
  • Any work occurring after Aug. 19 will be after hours. Contractors will coordinate their work with class schedules to ensure that normal building operations are not affected.
  • Administration branch team members will be on site to assist employees and students during reoccupancy. This week, support staff will be stationed in a tent outside the south entrance of the West Classroom Building between 8-10 a.m. and noon-2 p.m. to assist with work orders and other needs.
  • AHEC will continue cleaning through this week, ensuring that all spaces meet campus expectations. Roadrunners can also use spray bottles placed throughout the buildings to clean surfaces sooner.
