Community Engaged Learning

Welcome to the Community Engaged Learning section of the C2 Hub!

Community Engaged Learning (CEL) is a transformative approach that connects academic coursework with community needs. This initiative allows students to gain hands-on experience while addressing real-world issues. Our mission is to empower faculty and students to engage meaningfully with communities, fostering partnerships that enhance both educational experiences and community well-being.

Support and Training Opportunities

CEL Support:

We are committed to providing resources that assist faculty in integrating CEL into their courses. This includes guidance on developing course materials, designing impactful projects, and establishing valuable community partnerships.

Designation Support:

Our team will help navigate the process of obtaining a CEL designation for courses, offering templates, examples, and best practices. As we transition from Service Learning to Community Engaged Learning, we invite faculty to engage in this shift and utilize the resources available.

Workshops and Training:

We plan to offer workshops focused on best practices in community engagement, covering essential topics such as project planning and collaboration with community partners.

Assessment Resources:

We aim to assist faculty in measuring the impact of their CEL initiatives on student learning and community outcomes, providing tools to evaluate effectiveness and areas for improvement.

Upcoming Changes and Timeline

Upcoming Timeline:

We are currently in the process of implementing these changes. While the new CEL designation is not yet approved by the Faculty Senate, we anticipate moving forward with discussions and implementation in early 2025. Here’s what you can expect:

  • Fall 2024: Feedback collection and preliminary outreach to faculty about the upcoming transition to CEL.
  • Spring 2025: Formal review and approval of CEL designations by the Faculty Senate. Workshops and training sessions will be available to support this transition.

Stay Tuned

We are developing additional resources and quick links to enhance your experience with Community Engaged Learning. While these offerings are being finalized, we encourage you to reach out for support or to discuss how to integrate CEL into your courses.
