Peer Observation

Peer observation is a technique that provides faculty with valuable feedback about their teaching practice, prompting them to reflectively consider how they might improve their instruction techniques.

The CFE recommends the use of periodic formative observations, which provides regular and personalized feedback about course delivery and how students are responding. Formative observations provoke such questions as: What am I doing well that I can expand on? What might I improve?

The CFE supports formative observations by offering a training model that is available to all faculty on BLACKBOARD (log in, under My Organizations click on the Center for Faculty Excellence link). This training will assist both observer and observee to better understand how a course is consistently assessed.

MSU Denver no longer requires a summative peer observation for tenure or promotion, however some departments may still have this as a requirement. Check with your department or give us a call if you have questions. The Center will contiue to offer its Peer Observation service during the 2017-18 academic year.

*The deadline to request a Peer Observation for a Fall 2018 tenure submission is: Tuesday, May 01, 2018

The CFE supports the summative peer observation process by scheduling a trained observer to visit your classroom.  Please request an observation using the: Summative Peer Observation Request Form
