Bio:

Carla Mirabelli is the Director for the Center for Urban Education at Metropolitan State University of Denver (MSU Denver) and Principal Investigator and Director for the 21st Century College Readiness Center supporting out-of-school partnership programs in high-need urban schools and communities.
 
Previously, Carla was the governance and development associate for the national education policy organization, the Education Commission of the States (ECS). Prior to her work with ECS, Carla fundraised and coordinated major events for members of congress and non-profit organizations in Washington D.C., and served as a grassroots organizer for a national non-profit in Boston, Corporate Accountability International. For 4 years, Carla served as a vice-chair and member of the PS1 Charter School board in Denver. She is currently seeking her Master’s in Public Administration from the University of Colorado Denver and is a graduate of the University of Vermont.

Rachel Brazell is the Interim

Program Manager and Event Designer for the Center for Urban Education. As part of the partnership with DPS Rachel works as a College Readiness Enrichment Instructor and travels to all of the 21st Century College Readiness Centers with customized activities to help her students prepare for college. Prior to joining the CUE staff full time Rachel worked with the Center for Urban Education as  tutor and mentor in the after school program at Abraham Lincoln High School, a tutor for the DPS Credit Recovery Program at John F. Kennedy High School and as a mentor in the 9th Grade College Readiness Camp for two summers all while pursuing her post-baccalaureate teacher liscensure in Secondary Social Studies Education with a Theatre Endorsement at Metropolitan State University of Denver.

Before returning to school for her teaching license Rachel worked for ten years with the City of Northglenn and the Northglenn Youth Theatre as a director, stage manager and technical theatre assistant. She taught theatre classes as well as working on the production of over 20 professional plays and musicals for  the Northglenn Youth Theatre and the Northglenn Players. Rachel has also worked as a freelance costume and make-up designer and theatre technician for Su Teatro Cultural and Performing Arts Center,the Denver Center for the Performing Arts and numerous other regional theatres in Colorado. In addition to her teaching license Rachel has two bachelor's degrees in History and Theatre from Doane College in Crete, Nebraska.
