Statement of Confidentiality and Client Rights
Information you provide on MSU Denver Career Link and during career counseling is treated by Metropolitan State University of Denver, and by the Office of Career Services, as confidential, except in limited circumstances as described below. However, no assurances can be made for the security or confidentiality of information sent by social media or email transmission. For more secure communication with your career specialist, you are encouraged to schedule an in-person appointment.
Confidentiality is maintained unless you or your legal representative waives it or when a career specialist consults with another professional to obtain information or advice to assist in serving your needs.
There are situations under Colorado law in which confidentiality must be broken and include:
- Suspicion of your intention to physically harm yourself or others
- Suspicion of abuse or neglect of a child, dependent person or an elderly individual, past and present
- Order by a judge to testify in court or provide your records
When circumstances require disclosure of confidential information, only essential information will be revealed. To the extent possible, a client will be informed before confidential information is disclosed. Additionally, career specialists’ client notes are minimal and brief.
While the Office of Career Services maintains policies for employers recruiting ay MSU Denver, we cannot predict or control the behaviors of hiring employers.
