Colorado 14ers Initiative

The Colorado Fourteeners Initiative

A non-profit partnered with the US Forest Service whose mission is to protect and preserve the natural integrity of Colorado’s fourteen thousand foot mountains through active stewardship and public education.
Opportunities:Are you planning on climbing a 14er this year?  If so you can help us out at the same time!  CFI has opportunities for individuals to become Peak Stewards while they are on personal hikes.  Peak Stewards receive training in environmental education, alpine ecology, and USFS regulations to help educate other hikers in Leave No Trace practices.  They also help monitor the peaks, recording numbers of visitors, so CFI can submit that information to the Forest Service.  Peak Stewards have the opportunity of making their 14er trips tax deductible and are also covered under a Forest Service Volunteer Agreement while they are hiking.  It’s a very convenient form of volunteerism.  Trainings are taking place throughout the winter and spring so contact Brian at CFI’s office for details.
