Student Employment Opportunities

Campus Recreation employs over 40 students each semester. All MSU Denver students are encouraged and invited to apply for the available positions listed below.

There is a 2-step process to apply:

NOTE: We are currently seeking a graphic designer. Most of the remaining positions are filled for the fall, but we are still accepting applications and hiring desired candidates to fill gaps in the schedule and train for the spring semester. The Facility Operations team manages at the Front Desk, Fitness Center, and Fitness Loft posts. Team members will help to implement and improve all processes and functions of the Campus Recreation facility including, but not limited to, programming and processing of registration for memberships, conduct supervision and upkeep of fitness center and fitness loft equipment, materials, and overall participation.

Responsibilities

  • Registration and programming of memberships plus encoding for Millennium system
  • May include cash handling responsibilities
  • Supervision, maintenance, and data collection
  • Facilitate equipment rentals, maintenance, and data collection
  • Ensure members of Campus Recreation are abiding by rules, protocol, and dress code

Required Qualifications

  • Current student at MSU Denver enrolled with at least 6 credits or more
  • Must currently have or complete CPR/AED/First Aid training within 60 days of hiring
  • This position requires the physical ability to stand for long periods of time. This position may also require pushing, pulling, kneeling, bending, lifting and reaching

Preferred Qualifications

  • Seeking motivated, dependable, and detail-oriented students with strong customer service and communication skills
  • Prior experience at a recreation center or gym

The Street team will facilitate marketing outreach through information tables and distributing materials for programs and events hosted by Campus Recreation and other departments as needed or instructed.

Responsibilities

  • Resources are to be checked, organized, and restocked before each event
  • Team members will inform pro staff or Building Manager of when other resources and supplies are needed
  • Street Team members will be responsible for setting up and taking down each event

Required Qualifications

  • Current Student at Metropolitan State University of Denver enrolled with at least 6 credits or more
  • Must currently have or complete CPR/AED/First Aid training within 60 days of hiring

Preferred Qualifications

  • Outgoing, motivated, and dependable students with strong customer service and communication skills

The Sports Official position will be responsible for officiating one or more sports for students participating in the Intramural Sports program offered by MSU Denver Campus Rec. This position will work alongside the Intramural Sports Supervisor to provide a safe and inclusive environment for student participants by ensuring the specific rules for each sport are followed and upheld. This position will report to the Assistant Director of Recreation and Leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Officiate one or more of the following intramural sports: Basketball, Volleyball, Soccer
  • Record scores on the intramural website (IMLeagues.com) and update league rankings
  • Assess and record a sportsmanship rating for each intramural team based on the Intramural Sports program manual
  • Adhere to MSU Denver’s Student Code of Conduct and work with the on-duty Intramural Sports Supervisor to ensure participants adhere to MSU Denver’s Student Code of Conduct as well
  • Follow all Campus Recreation policies and procedures and work with the on-duty Intramural Sports Supervisor to ensure participants are following Campus Recreation’s policies and procedures as well

Required Qualifications

  • Must be a current student at MSU Denver with a GPA of 2.0 or higher, in good academic standing and enrolled in 6 or more credit-hours.
  • Must have a current CPR/AED and First-Aid certification, or have the ability to achieve certification before officiating any intramural sport
  • Must be able to work Monday-Friday evenings and occasional afternoons

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional sports official certification in related sports listed in main responsibilities
  • Experience officiating basketball, volleyball, or soccer at the high school level or above
  • Familiarity with participating in intramural sports

The Sports Supervisor position will be responsible for supervising the various Intramural Sports and Drop-In / Open Rec programs offered by MSU Denver Campus Rec. This position will work alongside the Intramural Sports Official to provide a safe and inclusive environment for student participants by ensuring the specific rules for each sport are followed and upheld. The Intramural Sports Supervisor is also responsible for scorekeeping during Intramural Sports and for reporting any concerns, incidents, or emergencies that arise. This position will report to the Assistant Director of Recreation and Leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Provide supervision in the gym during Intramural Sports and Drop-In / Open Rec events including scorekeeping duties, incident management and reporting, participation tracking, and equipment maintenance
  • Ensure that court(s) are set up correctly and in time for scheduled events, and that the intramural laptop is set up and functional
  • Assess and record a sportsmanship rating for each intramural team based on the Intramural Sports program manual
  • Record scores on the intramural website (IMLeagues.com) and update league rankings
  • Adhere to MSU Denver’s Student Code of Conduct and work with the on-duty Intramural Sports Official(s) to ensure participants adhere to MSU Denver’s Student Code of Conduct as well
  • Follow all Campus Recreation policies and procedures and work with the on-duty Intramural Sports Official(s) to ensure participants are following Campus Recreation’s policies and procedures as well

Required Qualifications

The goal of a group fitness instructor is to provide a fun, safe and effective workout for participants in the Healthy Pursuits program. Instructors are responsible for developing lesson plans, supervising class participants and leading instructional sessions.  

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop and deliver safe, fun & effective group fitness classes based on industry standards
  • Provide modifications to allow for a variety of fitness levels and abilities
  • Observe movement patterns for safety and provide feedback when necessary
  • Participate in Campus Recreation fitness related special events and continuing education opportunities
  • Provide a welcoming, inclusive environment for all participants

 

Required Qualifications

  • Group fitness instructor certification from a nationally recognized organization
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certification or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current MSU Denver student enrolled in at least 6 credit hours
  • Academic major in exercise science, athletic training, physical education or a related field
  • Prior group fitness teaching experience

The goal of the group fitness support is to assist group fitness instructors to provide a safe, fun and effective environment for participants of the Healthy Pursuits program. The group fitness support staff is responsible for the class being set-up on time, assisting with sign-in and providing assistance in emergency situations.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the set-up and break-down of group fitness classes
  • Assist the instructor with any issues, emergencies and participant sign-in
  • Learn what equipment is necessary for the class and communicate with the instructor regarding their needs for each individual class
  • Perform routine safety checks and cleaning of the equipment
  • Participate or stay in the room during the entirety of the class to provide assistance to the instructor

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Current MSU Denver student enrolled in at least 6 credit hours
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certification or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Academic major in exercise science, athletic training, physical education or a related field
  • Previous experience attending group fitness classes

Responsibilities include providing personal training services to students, faculty/staff and community clients of all levels of fitness and abilities. Personal trainers are expected to adhere to appropriate methods and modalities accepted as safe and effective by industry standards.  

Responsibilities

  • Design individualized exercise programs for students, faculty/staff, community clients based on personal health and fitness goals
  • Conduct one-on-one personal training sessions for clients
  • Maintain client files, tracking sheets and confidentiality guidelines
  • Participate in Campus Recreation fitness related special events and continuing education opportunities
  • Demonstrate safe and correct form for exercises and making modifications when necessary

Required Qualifications

  • Current personal trainer certification from a nationally recognized organization
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certification or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Current MSU Denver student enrolled in at least 6 credit hours
  • Academic major in exercise science, athletic training, physical education or a related field
  • Prior personal training experience

Responsibilities:

  • Responsibilities include providing group personal training services to students, faculty/staff and community clients of all levels of fitness and abilities. Personal trainers are expected to adhere to appropriate methods and modalities accepted as safe and effective by industry standards.  
  • Design group personal training programs for students, faculty/staff, community clients based on personal health and fitness goals
  • Conduct group personal training sessions for up to four clients at a time.
  • Maintain client files, tracking sheets and confidentiality guidelines
  • Participate in Campus Recreation fitness related special events and continuing education opportunities
  • Demonstrate safe and correct form for exercises and making modifications when necessary

Required Qualifications

  • Current personal trainer certification from a nationally recognized organization
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certification or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current MSU Denver student enrolled in at least 6 credit hours
  • Academic major in exercise science, athletic training, physical education or a related field
  • Prior personal training experience

A person in this position is responsible for participant safety, planning, supporting and leading Outdoor Pursuits outings, equipment selection and maintenance and any other activity associated with the successful operations of outdoor leadership programming and the delivery of recreation services at Campus Recreation

  • lead and participate on various single day, weekend and multi-day OA outings
  • Assist in planning outings
  • Teach outdoor skills
  • Implement appropriate safety practices to assure the safety of participants and staff in various challenging natural environments and conditions
  • Answer participant’s questions or refer participants to personnel qualified to answer questions
  • Perform duties associated with rental shop including customer relations and equipment maintenance
  • Train staff
  • Evaluate outings
  • Operate State vehicles in accordance with State policy
  • Attend regular Outdoor Adventure Center OAC staff meetings
  • Lead groups in teambuilding or leadership development activities
  • Clean OAC areas

Looking for a creative and skilled student to design marketing and promotional materials for Campus Recreation. This includes creating posters/flyers, digital images/graphics, and communication templates. Will work with other team members to promote departmental programs and events, and help further brand initiatives. Designers will have the flexibility to work their work schedules so long they meet all deadlines. Candidates may be eligible for work in other areas throughout Campus Recreation.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated skills and knowledge with design concepts and software (Photoshop, InDesign, etc) and experience with MS Office
  • Experience creating print and web graphics, flyers and/or promotional materials
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
  • Strong customer service skills and professional attitude
  • Professional communication skills (both orally and written)
  • Work study preferred but not required
