Philosophy

Integrated Media is a pool of thematic, experimental electives supported by the Department of Art to provide a broad base of technical and conceptual skills that can be applied to a wide range of creative activities, not specific to one particular discipline. Integrated Media fluidly approaches technology as various forms of art, craft, processes, and practice with an aim to integrate disparate frameworks of inquiry, both analog and digital, old and new, while also serving as a hub for digital art. Students will engage in practices that go beyond traditional boundaries of making and researching art and design, including but not limited to time-based media, digital art, post-studio art, interactive design, community-based projects, and thematic and cultural studies.

Mission

Integrated Media coursework is designed to prepare students to:

  1. Bridge disciplines and collaborate across the fields of art, art history, design, and beyond.
  2. Create and critique work in a manner that challenges traditional modes of art and design.
  3. Work with various faculty members that offer distinct perspectives from various disciplines.
  4. Engage in innovative, experimental, and theoretical coursework that encourages individual development within an interdisciplinary context.
