F-1 Visa Application Process
Apply for your F-1 Student Visa
If you need to be issued an F-1 visa to attend MSU Denver, you must apply for your visa. You will receive your I-20 documents from our International Student Support (ISS) team by email.
Complete the online visa application (Form DS-160), schedule your visa interview appointment at a United States Embassy or Consulate, pay your visa application fee and attend your visa interview. Don’t forget to bring all required documents to the interview.
You must also pay the SEVIS I-901 fee
Transfer your SEVIS record to MSU Denver
If you are already in the U.S. on an F-1 visa, you must complete both sections of the Transfer-In Form with your current DSO.
Our International Student Support team will not start the transfer process until they receive the completed form from your current DSO.

Next Steps to Enroll at MSU Denver
Set up your MSU Denver student account
Access your MSU Denver NetID to set up your student email account and the Student Hub, by using the My First Login tool. You can find your NetID in your electronic acceptance letter, accessible within your Application Status Portal. You will also need to save your acceptance letter for your visa interview.
Sign Up for New Student Orientation
Make sure to attend the in-person orientation session for International Students. Sign up today!
Meet Your Advisor
You should receive advising during your New Student Orientation session. If not, you must set up an appointment with your advisor prior to selecting classes. Find your advisor and make an appointment.
Register for Classes
You should register for classes during orientation. If not, you register for classes on your Student Hub, which is where you can edit your schedule, too.
Check in with International Student Support
Physical check-in is mandatory. You will do this at orientation. If you miss your orientation session, you will need to contact International Student Support immediately.
Pay Your Tuition
Pay tuition and fees via the Student Hub or at the Cashier’s office (located in the Jordan Success Building, Counter 5) by 5 pm on the Friday before classes begin. Contact the Office of the Bursar if you have any questions about your bill.

Ensure you Have Housing and Transportation
You are responsible for finding your housing. MSU Denver is unable to arrange housing for you. Learn more about housing options for students.
Health Insurance and Immunization Requirements
Review MSU Denver Student Insurance requirements and submit any required Immunization Records. You can contact the Health Center at Auraria if you have any questions.
Join Your Community
You are invited to join all newly-admitted Roadrunners in the Online Facebook Community group. This is a great way to meet your peers, ask questions and get involved.

Apply for MSU Denver Scholarships
Complete the Colorado Application for State Financial (CAFSA) Application
Select MSU Denver as the recipient school. International students cannot receive state financial aid. However, completing this application is an eligibility requirement for several MSU Denver institutional scholarships.

Please remember these awards are offered on a first-come, first served basis. Meeting minimum qualifications does NOT guarantee you will be offered one of these awards.
CAFSA Help
Complete the Colorado Application for State Financial (CAFSA) Application
The Office of Immigrant Services helps students completing the CASFA application. Immigrant Services are available to help MSU Denver students and families one-on-one with completing their aid applications via virtual appointments.
Financial Aid and Scholarships
We encourage all our students to pursue a variety of financial aid resources to maximize their chance of getting awarded. Review the Financial Aid office’s “External Scholarship Tips for Success.”

Access Center
Students with mental health, hearing, visual, physical, chronic health and learning disabilities are encouraged to contact the Access Center.
Immigrant Services Program: English Language Services The Immigrant Services Program offers:
- Academic + ESL Tutoring
- Communication with departments/faculty on your behalf
- Peer mentorship
- RIDES Program: Roadrunners Interested in Developing English Skills
Tutoring Program
The Tutoring Program supports all MSU Denver students by offering free, one-on-one, and group tutoring sessions in a variety of subjects. Our program is not just for students having difficulties with course material but also for those looking to better excel in their academic pursuits.
Writing Center
The Writing Center can help with any writing assignment, in any stage of the writing process. Assignments could include summary/response papers, journals, case studies, research projects, collaborative projects, digital projects, resumes, applications, presentations, and more!
Tivoli Station Bookstore
Visit the Tivoli Station Bookstore and purchase books and supplies as well as get your Student ID card.
Classroom to Career Hub (C2 Hub)
The C2 Hub provides career and applied learning services, such as career interest testing, resume preparation, job search strategies, interviewing skills, internships, service learning, civic engagement, and undergraduate research.
Health Center at Auraria
Open to all MSU Denver students, faculty, and staff: The Health Center at Auraria provides an accessible outpatient service devoted to helping students meet their health care needs at a low cost.
Counseling Center
Balancing the demands of college life can be difficult. Personal stress – such as financial pressures, relationship issues, and dealing with the transition to a new country and culture – can leave you feeling worn out.
The Counseling Center staff can help you find ways to manage difficult times and provide you with a comforting place. You do not have to have a mental illness to find talking with a counselor helpful.
Placement Testing
You may be required to take a placement test for math and/or English depending on your incoming test scores or completed college coursework. Take a look at the Office of Testing Services Website for more details.
Health Insurance and Immunizations
Health Insurance is a mandatory fee. Those with alternate coverage can waive this fee if you are paying out of pocket.
All students are also required to submit their immunization records. Review the Immunization Requirements.
RTD CollegePass
All MSU Denver students registered for the fall 2021 semester have the ability to opt-in for an RTD CollegePass, allowing for unlimited Local, Regional and Airport bus and rail services. Learn more about payment options and picking up your pass here.
Roadrunner Card with Wells Fargo Banking Option
You will get your Roadrunner ID Card at orientation, but thanks to our partners at Wells Fargo you can also link it to your Wells Fargo Everyday Checking account for free access to cash at Wells Fargo ATMs nationwide and to make PIN-debit purchases. For your convenience, Wells Fargo offers an ATM located inside the Jordan Student Success Building.
