Bio:

Gregory Clifton is a tenured Associate Professor of Accounting at MSU Denver.  He earned his law degree (JD) at Thomas M. Cooley Law School and an LLM in Taxation from the University of Denver.  Professor Clifton is licensed to practice law in the state and federal courts of Colorado and Georgia.  He has also practiced in the US Tax Court and the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit.  Professor Clifton continues to operate a small private practice advising small businesses and individuals on tax matters.  Professor Clifton currently serves as the Chair of the Accounting Department.

Bio:

Sheri Betzer is a CPA and CFE from Denver, CO.  Since receiving her B.S. in Accounting from Colorado Mesa University, Ms. Betzer has become one of the foremost experts in fraud and forensic accounting. She regularly conducts continuing education courses for CPA's and attorneys while maintaining a practice that involves litigation support, fraud investigation, and financial consulting.  Some of her former clients include the US Dept. of Justice, the Colorado Dept. of Revenue, and public defender offices throughout CO, AZ, and WY, just to name a few.  Ms. Betzer is a full-time faculty member at MSU Denver and currently teaches courses related to fraud and forensic accounting in the MPACC program.

Bio:

Amy Cardillo is a Colorado CPA and small business owner.  She received her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Colorado State University in 1993 and her Master of Science in Finance from the University of Colorado at Denver in 2000.  She completed her Masters of Professional Accountancy from the Metropolitan State University of Denver in 2015.  Mrs. Cardillo and her husband own a forensic consulting firm that specializes in building envelope failure and business interruption claims.  Additionally, Mrs. Cardillo provides tax preparation and accounting services for their clients.

Joe has two Master's degrees from the University of Colorado at Denver and is a PhD student at the University of Denver. He is a long time Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), holds a Certification in Risk Management Assurance (CRMA), and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). His research interests are in auditing, internal auditing, cost accounting, and small business issues.

Bio:

A Colorado native, Paul R. Harrison graduated from Hartwick College in Oneonta NY with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics. He holds the distinction of being the first CFP® candidate to complete all six classes through the Metropolitan State University of Denver (MSUD) Financial Planning certificate program. Mr. Harrison received the designation in 1999. In 2004 Mr. Harrison completed his Master’s in Business Administration at the University of Colorado at Denver.

Mr. Harrison has earned the Certified Financial Planner™ designation and is a Certified Public Accountant in the State of Colorado.

Bio:

Dr. Andrew Holt is a professor of accounting at Metropolitan State University of Denver. He previously held positions at Kingston University, Gloucestershire University and the London School of Economics and Political Science in the United Kingdom (UK).  Andrew obtained his PhD in accounting at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), UK. He also holds an MSc in Accounting from the LSE and a BA (Hons) in Accounting from Kingston Polytechnic, UK.  Since then, Dr. Holt assisted the UK's Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) with the development of a new professional Code of Practice on Service Charge management (2011).  He co-authored "Business Accounting, a textbook by Palgrave Macmillan, which had its 3rd edition published in 2017. To-date, the textbook has been adopted by institutions in the UK, India, Pakistan, China, Canada, and the US.

A 2018 graduate of MSU Denver, obtained Master of Professional Accountancy; emphasizing in taxation. Undergraduate education was completed at Colorado State University, Pueblo, where she obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration with an emphasis in accounting. Currently a full-time lecturer at MSU Denver and enjoys sharing her knowledge and expertise in the area of public accounting. Married 22 years to husband, Michael, she has three children and enjoys spending time with her family. A Colorado native, she is passionate about community and the well-fare of the state.

Bio:

Laufer worked as a CPA for five years in Denver and Leadville before shifting his professional focus to academia. Prior to joining the Accounting Department at MSU Denver in 1995, he served as director of the MPAcc program at Weber State University. Laufer also taught at Northern Arizona University and Colorado Mountain College.

He is an active member of the Colorado Society of CPA’s (CSCPA). In 2009, Laufer was selected to serve on the CSCPA’s Educational Foundation Board. Presently he serves on the COCPA 2020 Committee and received the COCPA Heroes and Heroines award in 2012. Laufer has been a member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners since 2002 and served on the board of directors of Colorado Chapter of the ACFE until 2013. In 2007, he received the ACFE Distinguish Achievement award.

Laufer has published and co-authored articles in the “Journal of Forensic Studies in Accounting and Business,” “American Journal of Economics and Business Administration,” “The Tax Adviser and Advances in Accounting Education.” His research focus is on accounting education, teaching pedagogy and occupational fraud.

Laufer received his doctorate in accounting from Oklahoma State University, a master’s in taxation from Colorado State University and a bachelor’s in accounting from the University of Denver. He is also a licensed certified public accountant (CPA) and a certified fraud examiner (CFE) in Colorado.

Bio:

William Mesa is Assistant of Accounting and Management at Metropolitan State University of Denver. Previous to this post, he was on the faculty at Colorado Christian University. His primary areas of teaching are in accounting, strategic analytics and ethics. He has also taught strategic management at Chongqing University and Dalian Technological University and has provided week-long seminars in strategic management at Xihua University. He presented his findings on 25 years of published papers on Values and Corruption in the Journal of Business Ethics at the IESE Business School, Barcelona, Spain. His current paper on accounting students’ learning of data analytics is under editorial process for the Journal of Accounting Education. He recently presented a paper on the “Ambidextrous Accountant” for the American Accounting Association in the spring of 2018.

Dr. Mesa is the principal and founder of Triangulation Group, LLC where he serves as a consultant for SMEs in the capacity of vision, strategy, and core values planning in conjunction with analytics. Clients have ranged from the pet services industry, the performance arts environment, craft breweries, and a leading research hospital.

He is a member of the AICPA, a licensed CPA (not in public practice), and a CGMA (Chartered Global Management Accountant). He received his Bachelors and Masters in Accounting from New Mexico State University and his Doctorate in Management at Colorado Technical University.

Jim Murphy is a full time, non-tenure track accounting instructor with a BS in Accounting from the Metropolitan State College of Denver and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Colorado at Denver. Jim is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), a Certified Management Accountant (CMA), and a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA). Prior to teaching, Jim spent 20 years in internal audit, corporate accounting, and operations accounting in a large manufacturing company. Jim teaches managerial accounting and accounting information systems.

Minga Negash is a tenured Professor of Accounting at MSU Denver and a part time continuous personal Professor at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. He obtained his BA in Accounting from Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia, his MBA in Accounting and Finance from Catholic University in Belgium and his Doctorate from the Free University of Brussels, which is in Belgium as well.  Professor Negash is continuously engaged in discipline based research projects, reviewing the works of his peers, supervising and examining PhD thesis,  participating in academic conferences and serving in the editorial boards of journals.  His total scholarly works are close to 60, of which about 30 of his intellectual contributions have either been or are being published in peer reviewed local and international journals. These scholarly works have been published in such outlets as the British Accounting Review,  Journal of Business Research,  Journal of Accounting and Organizational Change, Management Research Review, Investment Analysts Journal, Journal of Business and Policy Research, Afro Asian Journal of Finance and Accounting Research, International Journal of Critical Accounting, the Romanian Journal of Multidimensional Education, the South African Journal of Accounting Research and the Journal of Applied Accounting Research.

Letitia has a 2007 Ph.D. in Accounting.   Her main focus is on Cost Accounting and is currently pursuing a project that will lead to an open source text for the course.  Her goal is to use this experience to help others create open source material for their classes.  She is also very interested in online teaching and has developed many resources to help make the online Cost Accounting course better.  She is active within the profession focusing much of her time with the Institute of Management Accountants.  She is the student night chair for the local chapter and has taken students to the national annual leadership conference.

Dr. Tae Ryu earned a Ph. D. in Accounting from Rutgers University in 1993. He has taught Accounting Principles I & II, Cost Accounting, and Intermediate Accounting I & II for more than 20 years at Metropolitan State University of Denver. He obtained a Colorado CPA license in 1997, and has maintained an active status since then. 
Dr. Ryu is academically qualified. During the most recent five-year period (2013-2017), he published two articles in peer reviewed journals and presented 5 papers in peer reviewed conferences during the five-year period, and published their abstract in the proceedings.
