We highly encourage our students to pursue and complete internships. However, a first accounting internship can be daunting, with students not knowing what to expect and needing to apply sometimes a year or more in advance.

To demystify what can be an incredible opportunity for our students to spring forward in their accounting careers, we recently hosted a virtual “Demystifying Internships” event. Our panelists talked about expectations from both the student intern and employer perspective, tips for applying and securing an internship, and more.

Greg Clifton is the Chair of the Accounting Department and the faculty supervisor for all accounting internships for academic credit.

Clare Fidler | Career Specialist, College of Business at MSU Denver

In her role, Clare assists students with the internship process by reviewing resumes, cover letters, and LinkedIn profiles. She also provides guidance on the internship search, interviews, and connects students with other internship opportunities, including the Earn & Learn Program and Internship for Credit process available through the Classroom to Career Hub.

Lauren Wolff, SHRM-CP | Senior Campus Recruiter at Forvis Mazars

Lauren has worked as a campus recruiter for Forvis Mazars for 3 years. Prior to that, she worked at CSU as an academic advisor for 7 years. She loves working with students and helping them to actualize their career goals!

Milinda Sandoval | Government Accounting Consultant at Plante Moran

Through the Classroom to Career Hub, Milinda secured an assurance internship at a public accounting firm while completing her bachelor’s degree at MSU Denver in 2023. She then expanded her expertise with a seasonal tax processing role and a consulting internship while pursuing her Master of Professional Accountancy (MPAcc) degree. The valuable networking opportunities at the firm led to her rewarding career in government accounting consulting, which she began in August 2024.
