Technical Communication Majors

Interactive Media Production

The Interactive Media Production concentration provides the student with the theory, production and programming practices of interactive media production used in business and industry. The concentration includes course work in the writing, editing, design, programming, and production of interactive media projects in addition to professional experience and hands-on practice with computer hardware and software. The interdisciplinary, integrated curriculum is designed to provide breadth of knowledge and multitask capability.

Mobile and Social Media

This communication concentration area prepares students for a career in the design and development of mobile and social media communication within professional communities and networks. Social media environments are strategically designed to foster communication and sustain community engagement for problem solving, idea generation, professional development, and other corporate communication contexts.

Technical Writing and Editing

The Technical Writing and Editing concentration provides the student with both the theory and production practices of technical writing and editing used by industry and government. The concentration includes course work in the writing, editing, design, and production of technical reports, proposals, and manuals in addition to professional experience and hands-on practice with computer hardware and software. The curriculum is designed to provide breadth of knowledge and multitask capability.

Video Production

The Video Production concentration provides the student with the theoretical and practical experience required to design, write, and produce multi-image, multimedia, and videotape productions for non-broadcast use in industry, government, and other large organizations. Such productions are frequently used for training, image creation, and technical information dissemination.

Extended Major in Technical Communication

To complete the Extended Major, the student must fulfill all the requirements specified in one of the technical communications concentrations. In addition, the student must fulfill all General Studies, multicultural, and upper division course requirements of MSU Denver. All technical communication majors who choose the Extended Major are required to complete all 66 credit hours within the department. Students enrolled in the extended major are NOT required to complete a minor.
