Financial Aid Holds

A glossary of the possible holds that can be placed on a student's file.


Hold Code: 

FPFinancial Aid Proration Hold

Reason for Hold:

Per federal regulations, graduating seniors who are only attending one semester of an academic year must have Subsidized or Unsubsidized Federal Direct Loans prorated.

Resolution: No action required from students. The Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships will review your awards make any necessary adjustments and cancel the hold. 


Hold Code: 

GRPossibly Graduating Hold

Reason for Hold:

Records indicate that the student may have graduated and are no longer degree seeking

Resolution: Complete the GRADTE form found on our Forms Page.


Hold Code: 

OAPotential Overaward Hold

Reason for Hold:

Placed when financial aid awards may be over their unmet need and/or Cost of Attendance.

Resolution: No action required from students. The Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships will review your awards and cancel the hold. 


Hold Code:

OVOverlapping Loans

Reason for Hold:

Students may possibly be receiving loans from another school

Resolution: The Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships will review your awards and cancel the hold. If this cannot be done, students will be contacted via email and asked to submit the OVERLP form found on our Forms Page.


Hold Code:

SC – SAR Comment Code 399 Hold

Reason for Hold:

You completed both your 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 FAFSA using 2015 tax and income information. However, the information you provided on the two FAFSAs does not match. This is considered to be conflicting information by the Department of Education and must be resolved.

Resolution: We are requesting additional documentation from you to resolve the discrepancy. Failure to resolve conflicting information will prevent 2017-2018 financial aid disbursement and could result in loss of federal financial aid for the 2016-2017 award year, even if funds were already paid. Please respond immediately to this request so your aid is not in jeopardy. The 399 form can be found on our website at www.msudenver.edu/financialaid/forms under 2017-2018.


Hold Code:

SSSocial Security Number Hold

Reason for Hold:

Placed on student files that have different SSNs reported for the student in Banner and their FAFSA.

Resolution: Submit a copy of your social security card or a document from the Social Security Administration Office that has been signed by an authorized person.  


Hold Code:

TM Transfer Monitoring Hold

Reason for Hold:

Placed on each student's financial aid account at least 7 days prior to the beginning of a semester. During this time, our institution will upload current information from the National Student Loan Data System.

Resolution: This hold expires automatically after 7 days. No action is required.


Hold Code:

UEUnusual Enrollment

Reason for Hold:

Placed on student files that have a comment code of 359 on the student’s FAFSA and have missing transcripts from an institution in which the student attended during the past 3 academic years.

Resolution: The Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships will review your records and cancel the hold. If this cannot be done, students will be contacted via email and asked to submit the UEHAP form found on our Forms Page.


Hold Code:

UW Unofficial Withdrawal

Reason for Hold:

Placed on student files due to failing to complete any credits during the previous semester and may be subject to Return of Funds calculation.

Resolution: The Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships will review your records and cancel the hold. Students will be contacted via email if further actions are required.
