Courses for Colorado Counselors at Rocky Mountain Village

Metropolitan State University of Denver through the Extended Campus is offering two courses for Easter Seals Colorado Counselors at the Rocky Mountain Village in Empire, Colorado.  These two Summer only courses are offered for credit, RECR 390G - Responsive Care for Disabilities Training for 1 credit hour and RECR 390H Practicum for Responsive Care for Disabilities Training for 3 credit hours. RECR 390G is the prerequisite for RECR 390H.  Easter Seals program information.

Course Descriptions:

RECR 390G - Lecture:  Responsive Care for Disabilities Training: 

This course will provide information specifically related to 24 hour care for people having a wide range of ages and disabilities in the recreational and leisure focused environment provided at Rocky Mountain Village, Easter Seal’s Camp (an accredited member of the American Camp Association).  It will teach students about specific disability categories; broad public policies; physical, psychological and emotional care needs; health care; and, living environment management.  This course will provide students with information on management and responsive care over a period of 24 - 120 hours (1-5 days) or more for individuals with disabilities, and will inform them of specific strategies to use as they develop and become competent and responsive care providers in a recreational environment.

RECR 390H - Practicum:  Responsive Care for Disabilities Training

This practicum will provide an opportunity for students to obtain specialized training in responsive 24 hour care for people with a wide range of ages and disabilities in the recreational and leisure focused environment provided at Rocky Mountain Village, Easter Seal’s Camp (an accredited member of the American Camp Association).  During this course semester, 11 different groups of children and adults with a variety of disabilities will participate in the recreational and leisure focused activities offered at the camp.  Each week will present students with a new and different set of ages, abilities and disabilities that they will incorporate in learning skills for daily living 24 hour care and recreational leisure activity participation.

Matriculation Fee:  $75 (one-time fee for new students only)

Metro Bond Fee:  $20.90 per credit hour

Immunization Fee:  $2.10
